Students from Florida A&M University (FAMU), gather for a picture with Dr. Rabbani Muhammad, to celebrate Islamic Awareness Week.

“Trying to Stop Muslims: Is That The Answer For Peace?”

The teaching of Dr. Rabbani Muhammad, leaves students with great impressions while instilling hope for the tomorrow.

Last night, students, and guest gathered in the lecture hall of B.L. Perry on the campus of Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University (FAMU), to hear from Dr. Muhammad as FAMU celebrates Islamic Awareness Week.

During the lecture Dr. Muhammad, taught thoroughly about the Islamic religion; teaching the principles, history, and expectations of Islam.

The entire lecture brought its own dynamic and created discussion that students could identify, and relate with because of their different backgrounds and the conversation included what is going on in the United States with travel bans.

The Islamic religion is a structured religion that was established on the basic principle of the belief in one God Allah, and the belief in all of God’s messengers. By reading the Qur’an which is the belief in all of God’s sacred text in the Muslim religion; reading is the first commandment told to the Prophet Muhammad.

Dr. Muhammad highlights the importance of prayer and why it is important in the Muslim religion because when Muslims bow down to pray they are acknowledging that they are going to get knowledge and are a system of knowledge. The second time Muslims bow during prayer is signifying that they are not going to abuse the power given to them by God.

Today we hear so much about religion that we use jokes to trying to lift one religion over another but the jokes are really dealing with morality.  President Trump, ran his presidential campaign using harmful jokes that to target people are not like him, and do not have a certain kind of lifestyle that he is use to.

Monday, President Trump placed a travel ban on seven Muslim nations marking an early moment in his presidency, and a critical point in America’s stance toward Islam, while trying to send a message to the outside world.

The temporarily  travel ban blocks people from entering the United States while trying to change the United States counter-terrorism strategies by using a new angle that is being debated under the national security policy since the 9/11  terrorist  attacks. Trying to figure out how to keep Americans safe, and fight terrorism at home as well as overseas without separating Muslims in a way that could raise more racial tensions.

In addition not only was there sound advice and new ideas in the atmosphere for students to take a hold of but Ibrahim Bilau, a senior architecture student took away a few key points from the lecture:

“The importance of the presentation was to remind me of my religion, and being able to relate to other religion as well,” Bilau said. “Also the Prophet taught us to be good to everybody in the world.”

When asked about what he took away from last night’s lecture Jeffrey Dixon, an undergraduate student highlighted his thoughts on the lecture:

“This is a way for me to expand my own knowledge,” Dixon said. “This type of history is not taught in classrooms so to learn about is defiantly rewarding.”

Overall, the lecture was very insightful, full of wisdom, and knowledge about the Muslim religion. As a result, it left a great impression on the students and will be celebrated all through the week.
