“President Robinson to Attend White House Summit on Historically Black Colleges and Universities”

With the changing of presidency, the Trump administration is scheduled to issue an executive order on historically black college and universities.

The imminent executive order could go beyond the normal renewal of the of the White House initiative on HBCU’s issued by every president since President Carter.

Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University interim president Larry Robinson, will be attending a summit later on this month. The summit will be discussing the importance of historically black colleges and universities with President Trump’s staff and lawmakers.

President Robinson is one of the many presidents from historically black colleges and universities that are invited to this summit by the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.

The summit will take place on February 27-28 at the White House; others who are expected to be in attendance to meet with university presidents are U.S. Rep. Mark Walker (R-NC) and U.S. Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), in addition Omarosa  Manigault, who is the director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison in the Trump administration, and staff  for the Thurgood Marshall fund.

Faculty, and staff on campus are anticipating great things to come out from this summit and will be helpful to university as it continues to impact the lives of many students. Furthermore, President Robinson visit to the White House will provide Florida A&M University, more national exposure.

A vital part of the university are the professors, because they are instilling knowledge into their students to always achieve excellence.

Dr. Jennifer Collins, an associated professor and assistant dean to the school of business, and industry here at Florida A&M University, highlighted her thoughts on the upcoming summit:

“It is an opportunity for our President to share on a national stage the great things that are going on at Florida A&M University,” Collins said. “Florida A&M University, is a leader in offering signature programs by training Science, Technology ,Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) students for the future and we also offer programs such as Pharmacy, and SBI these are programs that the nation has heard about but this summit will give President Robinson, an chance to highlight things that we are doing here to prepare our students to be successful.”

The core values of FAMU in academic achievements are distinguish and sets this historic university a part from others. Many students have a unique learning experience at Florida A&M University, according to statics in 2014, FAMU was recognized among the 2014 “Best National Universities.”

Excellence, affordability, and diversity is what President Robinson, and staff try to push with vision the  faculty;  challenges students every day to do the best that they can with excellence in everything.

Angelika Lowder, a junior pre-medicine student shares a few key points on the HBCU summit that the president will be attending;

“I believe that it is important for president Robison to attend the summit because he will be further informed about the direction that the new administration is heading,” Lowder said. “In my experience, the faculty do their best to push academic excellence in us student which derives from the president, and his vision for the university.”

Overall , the HBCU summit will be very insightful and informative for all of the presidents of the historically black colleges and universities; this could be the begin of something great for the future of  FAMU.
